Summary: 4-way comparison of different hygrometer models.Evaluation: Two main focus areas: 1) Is it accurate, and 2) can it be adjusted. For the accuracy, I adjust all of the hygrometers outdoor at 90% relative humidity, and then took them inside, and they all tracked to 60%, except for unit #4, which remained at 80%. So three tracked together, and I deemed those “relatively accurate”.Unit #3: Lockdown Vault HygrometerRank: 3rdPros: a) relatively accurateCons: a) adjustment requires disassemblyhttps://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B004RQWLAAUnit #1: 5″ Hygrometer Thermometer Indoor Outdoor [UPDATED English Version], Humidity Gauge Indicator Temperature Humidity Monitor, Analog Hygrometer Humidor for Patio, Wall Decorative, Room, Home, OfficeRank: 1stPros: a) easy to read dial, b) relatively accurate, c) reading updates quickly, d) adjustableCons: Nonehttps://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07LD3PBNKUnit #2: 75mm Round Cigar Oasis Analog Hygrometer Cigar Hygrometers Cigar Hygrometer Round Cigar humidor HygrometerRank: 2ndPros: a) fairly easy to read, b) relatively accurate, c) adjustableCons: Nonehttps://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H8CQVCNUnit #4: Cigar Oasis Analog Hygrometer by Western HumidorRank: 4thPros: NoneCons: Not accurate, relative to three other units.https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JXOKPT0

I bought Two of these. They are in the same general area. One read 20 per cent higher than the other. O.K.—- so I put them both in same exact spot… same thing.Moved them into kitchen. Same thing. They read way different. By 20 percent.THEN…. we got two nice digitals( different brands, and not from amazon. There are no nice hygrometers on amazon….all are crap). The two read the same, and again, and they are different brands. Guess what? They read 62% when one of these read 80 per cent, and the other read 98 percent. JUNK. Don’t waste your money.Nowadays half the stuff they are selling is no nice, and the other half is crap.

**IF** you can calibrate this using an accurate unit for reference then this would work in a storage room or something that’s not valuable. If you are using it in a safe don’t bother, spend a few more bucks and buy a quality digital one. Once you see how it’s built you’ll agree it’s put together and shipped here for well under $1 per unit.Must be calibrated. The one I got arrived showing 20% higher than true. Once that’s done it does work sorta ok.To calibrate – Pop off the trim holding the faceplate and remove the paper dial. Then from the back rotate it to the proper setting. Place the paper dial back in and pop the faceplate on. The problem is you have to have another accurate unit or a working electronic one for reference. Also don’t even breathe on it while doing this or you will be setting it 5% higher than it should.

This hygrometer lacks an open port to adjust it, so if its inaccurate your just SOL. It caps out at 80% humidity, so there is a whopping 20% margin of error for people who prefer max humidity in their humidors. Is it 95% humidity? 90%? 85%? Who knows. It doesn’t go past 80, despite the dial clearly including 90-100%. Its flimsy, light as a feather, and predictably atrocious craftsmanship. Everything I’d expect of a cheapo, and that’s on me for refusing to spend more. However, despite the expected level of quality, I presumed it would at least be functional. Wrapping it in a warm, soaked towel to test its accuracy reveals its inability to go above 80% – it should be 95-100% humidity in a wet towel. This also prevents consumers from conducting the wet towel accuracy test, and thereby disallows one to test its accuracy.

This hygrometer is made out of cheap, flimsy plastic – which is deceptively painted chrome in order to give the impression that it is metal. The hygrometer is an spring-based one, with a poorly calibrated spring that is sluggish, unresponsive, and appears to be more than ~33% inaccurate. In order to test it’s accuracy, I put the hygrometer in an brand new bag full of silica gell desiccants. After leaving it there for Lunch (around 2 hours), it STILL indicates an humidity level of ~40 percent, when these silica packets should have brought the level down to ~10 percent.I do not recommand this product at all, and I will be seeking an refund.

I ordered two of these and could not figure how they were reading so much differently so I placed my old, accurate, marine unit next to each one of these to test them. Completely different readings so I then performed the salt/water test. They were both way off. But then, in attempting to adjust them, I realized what a piece of junk they are. You will not be able to turn the adjustment screw (used a set of jewelers screwdrivers) without damaging either the spring (which is the main component) or the needle. See pictures, not worth 99 cents, let alone almost ten dollars.

I tested the accuracy of this hygrometer by using the salt test. The reading was off by 13%. i.e. it was reading 62% when it should have been reading 75%. You can not calibrate this since it is sealed and no adjustment screw at the back. It is also made of plastic casing and cheap looking. I bought this because of the simple look and large numbers but I am afraid I just wasted $10. I will buy a digital hygrometer instead which can be calibrated for accurate reading.

I have tested this against a digital gauge in hopes that maybe it’s error rate was such that I could use it in my safe, but unfortunately mine is over 20% off. When the humidity is 55% it’s reading 80% or higher, and when I tested it using a small sealed container and a desiccant pack, my digital gauge read 16% and this read 30%. Obviously too much error to be useful.

wrapped in a dripping water soaked towel my other german hydrometer goes to 100 % RH in about 15 min.this one stopped at 80%RH even after one hour!!!placed in my silica gel desiccant box (5% RH) the indicator stops at 10%RH for hours.I do not have time to plot the rest of the range but to me this unit is useless (I need under 10%RH measurements as I drain humidity from watches to make them water proofed)

My husband and I recently purchased a safe. He wants to keep an eye on the humidity in the safe, so he found this product. He first left the hygrometer in various areas of our house to check its humidity readings to see if it agreed with our house humidity level…it did. We are very satisfied with this product – it is very easy to read and provides an accurate reading.
