Ordered this for my garage. I have a Dewenwils 50’ in the detached Garage which seems fine although it has retracted a few times when it shouldn’t have. We just got the Flexzilla and haven’t used it much but it seems a lot smoother and ‘smarter’ about when to retract and when not to. I would say more user friendly then the other brand. Where it may fall short is the mounting bracket. The Dewenwils has the mounting bracket separate from the reel. After mounting the bracket you just slide the reel onto it. nice system. Also the design allows for more mounting options. The Flexzillz uses an attached bracket which makes mounting a little more difficult but doable. The Flexzilla is more expensive by about $25.00. All things considered, I would buy the Flexzilla again despite the higher price and the mounting bracket.

Quick review w/photos, since none existed previously. The unit /reel was actually smaller than I was expecting, however, upon first impression it seems solid and well built. (time will tell)Easy to install and adjust. The 5 foot lead-in cord was more than ample length for my installation. Very compact unit which might appeal to someone who needs to install in a tight space.

I just installed this and it seems to basically fit all the criteria I have:1. A flexible, supple cord that will lie flat when extended. This one isn’t bad. I have more flexible cords, but all of those are 16/3. Given that this cord is 14 gauge, it’s it’s still pretty nice. I considered a similar, well known brand version and found its cord to be too stiff, a key reason I chose this one.2. Easy, reliable ratcheting mechanism. So far so nice. It ratchets in 1′ increments, and is aided by rollers at the cord exit. There’s no mistaking when it’s engaged or released, too.3. Circuit breaker on the case and not on the pigtail. My installation is overhead. I need the push-button within reach.4. 3 (or more) outlets at the cord’s end. This has 3.An additional nice feature I wasn’t looking for but appreciate is that it has power indicating LEDs on both the outlet block and on the case.I note that some comments criticize ease of installation. I had no issues. The bracket has keyhole openings. Provided that you measure correctly and pre-install screws, the bracket simply slides into position. There is no need to remove the bracket. The thing is pretty heavy, so were you to remove the bracket, it could be a bit of a wrestle reconnecting it unless you had a helper. I would install this onto drywall only if you use long screws into a stud or joist.A couple of people down-rated the device because it didn’t come with mounting screws. I don’t think that’s fair. Screws for installation where, onto wood? Masonry? Hollow block? I hung it from the flange metal on my overhead garage door track, so I had to use machine screws and nuts. You can’t expect the manufacturer to anticipate all of those variations.Someone asked in the questions section whether this can be used outdoors. The answer is not permanently. It says right in the literature that it’s only for use in dry locations. You could pre-mount a pair of bolts outside somewhere, and on dry days bring the device out and slide it temporarily onto the bolts, moving it back indoors afterwards.

The review by “chris barrett” doesn’t seem to understand that the reason the reason the holes are shaped the way they are is so you can measure, install your screws almost all the way, and then slide the whole unit up and over on the screws, and tighten.It’s a very easy install and you don’t need to take anything apart like they claim. Two 5/16 lag screws, lock washers, and standard washers are all you need and a nice stud to drill into, making the holes 7 inches apart.

I have a Flexzilla air reel as well. The air reel came with a bunch of hardware and it was quite easy to install by taking the bracket off. The extension cord reel doesn’t come with any hardware. On top of that, you need to take the bracket off to make it easier to install it on the ceiling/wall. The “pins” that hold the bracket to the reel are screwed in with these little screws and they can be challenging to put in once taken out. Worked out OK, but just something that should’ve been considered when it was made, in addition to the lack of hardware.Other than the little things, I love it.

Like:1. Compact2. Install options – wall or above; i did wall (see picture)3. Installation – I see comments on difficulties of installing with non removable bracket, but what i did and recommend: use hexagonal screws, into studs, until you can just ‘drop’ on bracket slots, then use wrench to tighten down rest of way. (see picture)4. Operation – at first, it isn’t readily apparent how to pull and stop in increments the extension cord, but with some experimenting, it is easy to ‘master’. Combination of feel and click sounds!Still early, just installed yesterday, but happy so far and will help me also manage my garage and yard electrical demand better.

I am glad I went with this over other reels on Amazon. The unit is very sturdy and easy to operate. The package DOES NOT include mounting hardware, but I understand that there are many different mounting options. The way I mounted mine was to the slotted angle iron used to support my garage door rails. In my case I needed 1/2″ bolts and washers.The ease of pulling out and retracting the cord is nice. 100% better than unrolling an extension cord and re rolling it when I am done.

It comes ready to mount. Took me longer to get my tools out then it did to mount it. One prior review said he took the swivel pin out (not necessary) to mount the bracket. I simply decided where I wanted to position the top mounting lag screw. Drilled a pilot hole, started the screw leaving a gap to slide the bracket on. Hung the reel on the top screw, marked the bottom bracket hole to drill the pilot hole. Set the reel aside, drill the bottom pilot hole, start the screw leaving a gap. Slide the reel bracket down over the screw heads and tighten. I used 1/4” x 1” lag screws with hex heads. Perfect fit with the mounting bracket.
